This is maiden World T20 title for Sri Lanka after failing on two occasions in 2009 and 2012 respectively. TEAM INDIA

BATTING

India was expecting another flyer from their openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane but Rahane got out in 2nd over at the team score of 4 runs. Next came in the man-in-form Virat Kohli to give company to Rohit Sharma. Rohit and Virat started building of inning but the scoring rate dropped drastically during this partnership and India managed to score only 31 runs in 6 overs of power plays.  At the end of 10 overs India were at 64 runs losing only 1 wicket.

In an attempt to increase the run rate Rohit Sharma got out scoring 29 runs of 26 balls and came in Yuvraj Singh. Virat was looking in great touch while his partner Yuvraj was struggling to score due to which India reached to the score of 100 in the 16th over. Virat Kohli completed yet another half century in T20 world 2014 while Yuvraj was struggling to connect with the ball and finally got out scoring 11 runs of 21 balls. Though Virat & Dhoni tried their level best, but India could post only 130 runs losing 4 wickets at the end of allotted 20 overs. Virat scored 77 runs in 58 balls hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes.

BOWLING

Sri Lanka bowled with great accuracy and didn't gave too many chances to Indian batsmen to score. Though they couldn't picked up many wickets still they maintained the pressure on Indian batsmen and stopped them from scoring. Each and every bowler played their role accordingly.

TEAM SRILANKA

BATTING

Chasing the target of 131 runs to win World T20 final Sri Lanka lost their first wicket like India in 2nd over of the match in form of Kusal Parera. But Jayawardene and Dilshan put a quick partnership of 36 runs before Dilshan got out scoring  18 runs of 16 balls. Now, it was to the two retiring cricketers Jayawardedne and Sangakkara  for to win the game for Sri Lanka. Sangakkara and Jayawardene kept the scoreboard ticking build the inning. Jaywardene got out in an attempt to play a big shot after scoring 24 runs on the same number of deliveries.

But Sangakkara kept scoring from the other end despite losing another wicket in form of Lahiru Thirimane. With the next in Thishara Parera, Sangakkara chased the target of 131 runs in 18th over. Sangakkara scored match-winning 52* runs in the final T20 match of his international career and made it sure that Sri Lanka crosses the line convincingly. Parera remained unbeaten at the score of quick 23 runs in just 14 deliveries to help Sri Lanka win the match as well as the trophy by 6 wickets for the first time in T20 World Cup history.

BOWLING

Indian bowlers tried their heart out but they had very low score to defend. They could grab only 4 wickets but they bowled exceedingly well and tried their level best.

Sri Lanka cricketer Kumar Sangakkara was declared Man of the Match for his match winning innings of 52* runs of just 35 balls in which he hit 6 fours and 1 six. Virat Kohli was declared Man of the Series as he was the leading run scorer in the series with 319 runs at an average of 102.63.

Toss was crucial in this match as before the start of the match there was strong rain fall which made it tough for batsmen to score in the first inning. Decision of sending Yuvraj ahead of Raina and himself by Indian skipper Dhoni also costed the match to team India as Yuvraj has poor record against Spin attack. If Dhoni could have promoted himself ahead of Yuvraj Singh then the result could have been different.

Though India played excellent cricket in he whole T20 tournament but they failed when it mattered most. Who do you think is to be blamed for the loss of India in final ?

    1. The way Virat has been performing he certainly has the skills along with the temperament and that is what made him excel in International cricket. And about breaking the records, he still has a very long way to go for that but he can definitely break that if performs continuously the way he has been performing for last couple of year.

    1. Well, Malinga was the stand in skipper for Sri Lanka. Dhoni can't be canted out only on the basis of one poor performance he is one the greatest captain in cricket history and also only captain to win all the ICC cricket tournament in cricket history.
